Clitheroe Castle and keep stand high on Castle Hill and at the very top of the hill. This image has dominated the Clitheroe skyline for over 800 years. There is a lot of history about the keep and the castle and the role that it has played over the centuries.
The views are impressive and we would highly recommend a visit. You are able to go inside the keep which is interesting and the walk around the outer wall is fabulous too. Although the keep is quite tall, the footprint of it is small, we were impressed that this building has stood the test of time, it stands out in the surrounding countryside.
The Keep is a historic landmark of Clitheroe which is in the heart of the River Ribble Valley.
We recommend that you take warm clothing in winter as it can be quite cold up there.
Before you go from the grounds, we recommend that you visit the museum as it is full of local and interesting artifacts. It took us quite a while to have a good look around and the staff was very helpful, which we were grateful for.
