Skipton Castle.

The Bailey, Skipton BD23 1AW

Skipton Castle is a small castle with a big history. This castle is fully roofed and although restored after the civil war it remains full of charm and intrigue. The guide who was there was very helpful and informative with small but interesting facts of the castle.

Spending time in each room is a must to savor the atmosphere. The dungeon is cold dark and damp and is reached by narrow stone steps which gave a feeling of apprehension and anxiety even though you are aware that you are coming back out. We can't imagine what the prisoners must have felt all those years ago being taken down the dimly lit steps knowing that they may not survive.

The view from the rear of the castle windows is fabulous and the height is breathtaking. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and would recommend visiting.
