Townley Hall.

Towneley Park, Burnley BB11 3RQ

Townley Hall is a wonderful place to visit and set in open grounds. The shell of the building is very impressive and looks almost like a fortified home. It has been changed many times over the years but a manor house has been here since the middle ages.

There is plenty to view inside with wonderful artifacts including paintings, sculptures, furniture, and an Egyptian display. Townley Hall is full of history and had links to the battle of Marston moor and the civil war and Oliver Cromwell whose portrait used to hang in the long gallery but has for some unknown reason been removed.

There is however a painting of the battle of Marston moor. The guide in the gallery was brilliant and very helpful and answered many of our questions. All the staff was very helpful. The entrance fee was only £5 and can be used for a year.

There is a museum at the back of the hall but was closed on our visit today. There is a cafe on-site and is very nice and reasonably priced too. Would we recommend a visit? Absolutely.
